Universal Design กติกาสากลของโลกปัจจุบันและอนาคต ในการออกแบบเพื่อให้ทุกคนสามารถใช้งานได้ร่วมกัน ดังจะเห็นได้ว่าเมืองใหญ่ๆในประเทศที่พัฒนาแล้วจะต้องมีการออกแบบภายใต้แนวคิด ‘การออกแบบเพื่อมวลชน’ มารองรับ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นด้านสภาพแวดล้อม สิ่งอำนวยความสะดวก บริการต่างๆ การสื่อสาร ไปจนถึงการเรียนรู้
หัวใจสำคัญของ Universal Design มีอยู่ด้วยกัน 7 หัวข้อได้แก่
Fairness ทุกคนใช้ได้อย่างเท่าเทียมกัน Flexibility มีความยืดหยุ่น ปรับเปลี่ยนได้
Simple and Intuitive ใช้งานง่าย Perceptible Information ข้อมูลชัดเจน สื่อความหมายเป็นที่เข้าใจ
Tolerance for error การออกแบบที่คำนึงถึงการใช้งานที่ผิดพลาดที่อาจจะเกิดขึ้นได้
Low Physical Effort ใช้แรงน้อย
Size and Space for Approach and Use มีขนาดและพื้นที่ที่เหมาะสมกับการเข้าถึงและใช้งานได้
Universal Design ตอบโจทย์ได้ทุกความต้องการ โดยเฉพาะผู้สูงอายุและผู้พิการ ซึ่งเป็นเรื่องสำคัญในการยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิต เพื่อการใช้งานอย่างคุ้มค่าและมีประโยชน์สูงสุดสำหรับทุกคน ทุกเพศ ทุกวัย ทั้งผู้สูงอายุ เด็ก ผู้พิการ ผู้บาดเจ็บ และสตรีมีครรภ์ พร้อมทั้งอำนวยความสะดวกให้ใช้ชีวิตได้อย่างราบรื่นและเสมอภาคกัน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการออกแบบด้านสถาปัตยกรรม สภาพแวดล้อมรอบตัว เฟอร์นิเจอร์ หรือแม้กระทั่งผลิตภัณฑ์ต่างๆ
Universal Design: a design for all
Universal Design is an international design standard of the current and future world that aims to be accessible to all people. In many cities in developed countries, “the design for the people” is the principle for design in areas of environment, facilities, services, communication and education.
There are 7 main concepts of Universal Design which are;
Fairness: useful design for people with different abilities.
Flexibility: flexible and changeable design.
Simple and Intuitive: user-friendly design
Perceptible Information: design that communicates clear information.
Tolerance for error: design that minimizes hazards of accidental actions.
Low physical effort: design that is used without fatigue.
Size and Space for Approach and Use: design with size and space that is easy to access and use.
Universal Design can respond to all needs, especially to the needs of the elderly and the disabled. It elevates wellbeing for many and maximizes the utility for all people, all genders, all ages, whether they are elders, children, disabled, injured or pregnant women. Universal Design facilitates convenience and equality in architecture, environment, furniture or even products.
